Flash is a multimedia software application created by Macromedia. Flash delivers animation, sound, and interactivity throughout the Web. It is a popular graphic animation and site creation tool for the Web because it uses a complex algorithm for its graphics, called vector graphics. Unlike traditional bitmap images, when resized, vector graphics retains its clarity and sharpness while keeping file sizes down. It also supports one of the most widely used browser plug-ins available. According to the Macromedia Web site, 98% of desktop computers that have Internet access have some form of Macromedia Flash Player installed. More recent Web browsers even come with Flash preinstalled.

Over the years, Macromedia has developed many versions of Flash. Jason began teaching himself how to use the software with Flash 5. However, it wasn't until the following version, Flash MX, that Jason became truly experienced with the program. The newest version of the software, Flash MX 2004, was released late 2003. Many aspects of the program have changed since its last iteration. Jason is currently spending time brushing up and learning new techniques with Flash MX 2004.

• DMZ: Demilitarized Zone
  DMZ is a project Jason did for a Multimedia Design class. His task was to make a game entirely out of Flash, and this is the final product. It is a tongue-in-cheek take on the war in Vietnam, complete with accompanying music from that time period. You are a one-man army whose job is to fight off the swarming horde of Communist Vietcong guerrillas. They come firing their guns at you from all areas - including in and behind trees! This is a good example of what Flash can do and what Jason is capable of creating with it. Try to see if you are able to get them all. Enjoy!
