Did you know that the Hawaiian green turtle is listed as an endangered species? It has been on the list since 1973.
The Hawaiians used to use green turtles for food, and tools. If you have never had the opportunity to see
a Hawaiian green turtle up close, they look identical to the turtle, except it is much larger. Its shell only gets to
100 centimeters in length, and can weigh up to 150 kilograms! When the turtle gives birth, the babies weigh only 25 grams,
equivalent to a handful of Smarties. They are about 4-5 centimeters in length. The green sea turtle nests in the French
Frigate Shoals, and the Hawaiian Archipelago. The reason why the turtle is becoming extinct is from possible ingestion of marine debris.
